A friend just gave me this delicious apple, I believe it was called a 'Honey Baked'. Can I save the seeds to start some seedlings? If so, what do I need to do to ensure the little guys? I'd like to start in pots (which I assume I'd have to do any way), until I'm sure of the final location where I'd like them to grow. How long can I grow them in pots? Can I go a few years if I have large enough pots? (I understand that starting from seeds is a long process, but I'm willing to put in the effort.) I've never grown seedlings before, so sorry if these are silly sounding questions... but I'm not sure where else to start.
The apple may have been delicious, but usually the apples from the seeds will not be. They do not grow true from seed. It will take about 8 - 10 years before you will know if your seedling is any good. If you want to give it a try anyways, you should be able to grow it in a pot for up to 2 - 3 years. After that, it will require planting in the ground. This will be a full size tree that may grow to be up to 40 feet tall and 40 feet across. If you want a smaller tree, you will need to graft onto dwarfing rootstock.
