We have had mixed results in our efforts to grow squash. Winter squash has been more successful than the summer variety. I will want to know much more, but just now I would like to know about: 1) We have about five beautiful scallop squash plants which have lofty large leaves and lots of blossoms. I have been seeing blossoms for at least two weeks but we have yet to harvest a squash. I peeked today and there are about four very small squash on the entire batch of plants. Why not more and why aren't the blossoms developing? My favorite summer squash is crookneck squash, but I have yet to have a successful crop. I did not plant any crook neck this year. 2) Is it wise to prune the long trailing vine of winter squash once several fruit have set on and are growing larger? I notice that the vines will continue to produce blossoms and squash just about forever, and I wonder if I should trim the vine to allow the current fruit to develop and ripen well?
