I put in 3 squares into my in-laws' backyard:

The soaker hoses are an experiment. I think a drip system would be better, but my budget isn't very big this year.

Trellises have not been installed yet.

    Here's the layout:

    Code:
    Tomato Onion Basil Nasturtium
    Tomato Carrot Parsley	Basil
    Tomato Onion Basil Carrot
    Tomato MarigoldBeet Basil

    Bean Beet Spinach Marigold
    Bean Carrot Beet Spinach
    Bean Spinach	Spinach Carrot
    Bean Carrot Beet Mesclun

    Cucumber	Brussel sprout	Onion Mesclun
    Cucumber	Mesclun Carrot BeetGrn
    Cucumber	BeetGrn Onion Mesclun
    Cucumber	Brussel sprout	Carrot	Nasturtium

    Tomatoes:

    • Hungarian Heart
    • Tom Patti's
    • Pineapple
    • Purple Brandywine

Beans are a mix of green and yellow... I could tell them apart until I applied the inoculant to them! Oops!

I think the idea of gardening in small spaces and trying to maximize yeild for those spaces is quite an interesting one. My garden is fairly large in comparison but I'd like to see more pictures of your square foot gardens once they've grown in more.

I notice that you have a few flowers planted in with your vegetables. I know that marigolds will attract slugs and snails and nasturtiums are a haven for aphids so I'm a bit confused as to why you include them in your vegetable garden. . . .

    Care to share the secret???
    :o)

Think of them as decoys. I'd rather have them eating the marigolds and nasturtiums than my lettuce and herbs. :D The nasturtium flowers are nice in salads, but I have no qualms about ripping them all out with the aphids attached, and putting them in the garbage.

A few crumpled newspapers left overnight under plants are good traps for insects ,and it lets you know just who the enemy is. My mother used to gather them up in the morning and burn them pests and all.I won't burn so I drown them in a bucket of water.
