One of my Spruces has added 2 new points. It is brown in middle. I do not like pruning evergreens but does it need it & when. Was small Christmas tree originally about 7 yrs. ago now about 5 ft. high. You may see Bindweed (Morning Glory) or Giant buttercups if I get Pic to attach--we're new to this. Yard faces North & we have dogs so if anyone has remedy for those we would like.

Dwarf Alberta Spruce. Prone to mites and other problems.

You can try glyphosate on the Calystegia. The buttercups really just have to be pulled out - at least in home situations.

I'm not sure how prone they are to some pests.

Just pruned a few limbs off the ground from a big fat one the other day - must be 30 years old. It gets sun until about 2 to 3 pm.

Pruning - almost nothing you can do except let them grow taller. I generally like to keep them from dragging the ground with foliage. Seen a few done as spirals, but I think they look rediculous.

The limited pruning options are one of it's shortcomings if the tree is planted close to something.
