I planted two nashi (Japanese pear) trees in my small yard last year. They flowered this year and I thought all was well until I noticed today that there are lots of yellow spots on the leaves. I saw an older thread on this forum about spots and "rust" but my leaves didn't look exactly like the photos that were attached to the message I saw. Can anyone identify the problem with my nashi tree leaves? If so, what can I do about it? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
It looks like a shothole fungus, except I can't find reference to pears getting that. At any rate, we have had a cold wet spring and these things will pop up. Clean up and burn fallen leaves in the fall and spray the tree with lime-sulphur to the point of run-off next winter. Don't use dormant oil on pears. Keep the tree well watered during times of drought. Stressed trees are usually infected, so see if some-thing is stressing it and correct that. IPM
