British Columbia: Spiranthes romanzoffiana - hooded ladies' tresses orchids

    We saw maybe twenty or thirty of these little orchids today in a large meadow or field not far from a Sports Complex in South Surrey. We think they're Spiranthes romanzoffiana - hooded ladies' tresses. Nadia knew they were there - she took me specifically to see them.

    Yes, there's nothing else like a Spiranthes ... and it isn't the red-listed one, so your ID is correct.

    Nice that there is a number of them. I have seen two occurrences here, one in a patch of ivy in a development and another in a low groundcover in a garden a few lots away from mine. Neither was able to persist and multiply. The development was redone eventually, although the orchid may have died before then. The neighbor, who was growing tropical orchids in her house confessed to probably having pulled the Spiranthes out by mistake, when weeding.
