    Hi,

A lot of soil receipes call for sphagnum peat
Can anyone tell me what is specific about "sphagnum" peat. Is it the same as the white peat we use here in the Netherlands (which comes from european regions like the Baltics) ? Does it also come in various types ?
Does it come from specific regions ?

Can spagnum peat be replaces by our white peat ?

    Thanks,
    Rob Landa

a quote from the second link: "In most countries of Western and Central Europe the stocks of slightly humified Sphagnum peat (white peat) are nearly depleted after centuries of agricultural use and peat extraction."

this suggests the names of the two products may be synonymous.
