my word, my prickly pear is growing by the day. you can almost watch its progress.
does it need to be pruned or is it all good to let it flourish. I think it looks great growing so fast as a desk.office plant. never realised cacti could be interesting. Any ones I have owned before did not seem to grow or change much. the day I got this home it started to grow wildly.

It is an Opuntia microdasys. I am afraid I must disappoint you: the plant is not growing well. The new growth should be almost round, like the older segments. This elongated growth shows that it the light is too low.
Few cacti need pruning, but if this was my plant I would remove the new growth and put the plant in a brighter position.
Opuntia are known for their (relatively) fast growth, by the way.

yep. I agree mandarin. Its growing too lanky/long I think. Not much I can do about the light situation unless I remove the plant from the office. I am happy enough once its appears healthy (as it does). check out the latest shots of it now.

Yes, a very good example of etioliation.
