In all our years living in BC ( all 62 years) we have never seen or experienced this long a dry spell. Starting the first week of May we had 2 very minor amounts of rain ( under 5 mm each time) prior yesterday. Finally a descent rain fall that lasted from tuesday evening into today. And more to come thru till tomorrow. I am surprised how well all the maples did in the containers and the garden. Of course we watered regularly but that pounding heat combined with high winds really put them to the test. This spell of weather really confirms just how tolerant the japanese maple is overall
Hi Otto, glad to hear your coming through the other side of the long drought you are suffering this year. Most maples are tough, but the newer varieties don't seem so heat tolerant. Just an observation. Over here we have had a cool Summer, with sooo much rain, I wonder if there will be floods this Winter. Here is a photo of my patio just the other day , with everything very lush compared to 2022. And this has been quite the norm this Summer. Anyway,I hope you have a good Autumn show to make up for what you have endured this year.
