i live on a street lined with very mature maples. these maples, for the past few years have had something nibbling at them. as a result, my little japanese maple on my balcony is getting nibbled too. right now, the leaves are beautiful and new, but in no time, i expect them to get eaten away. i do not know what it is that is eating the trees. isn't the city supposed to look after the trees lining the street? does anyone know who i should phone about this? thanks
i do not think it is snails. the maples are taller than my five storey building. i wish i could see what it is. all i see is what is left after the meal they make of the leaves.
My maple leaves are usually eaten by little green caterpillars, and leaf miner bugs. Between them these can do quite a job. They especially like tender growth, but will eat any leaf essentially. I actually just sprayed yesterday, a new "organic" (well authorized for use in organic farming) pesticide based on pyrethra (for the aphids) and some bacterial approach to the chenilles. -E
i agree with Emery for me caterpillar,i use white oil;some 5/6 day ago Dick van der Matt reply in my thread Cateripillar on my jm Tana and suggest me one good product for bio use ...
i think that they might be caterpillars. i can't see them though. i guess i could spray my own tree but, the big tall maples are where they are coming from and those are impossible to get at. someone else suggested i call the city. if anyone else has this problem and needs the city hall number for trees, it is 604 257 8600 hopefully they can get at it. thanks to everyone
