I am pretty sure that this is some sort of Datura (moonflower), I'd just like to know if anyone has the exact species name for this one. I have been pricked several times trying to harvest the seeds from the pods. Hurts like a son of a gun. They are beautiful and smell so sweet. I'm working on trying to sow some of the seeds for next year in a new home. I want to be sure I can take them with me when I go.

It is a definate night bloomer. The seed pods are like green spiney golf balls that split open at the bottom and spill the seeds out. The trumpets are all white and HUGE.

Please help me to identify the species. And any help with the proper way to sow the seeds would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

    Kerri

Be very careful with it, who (pets, kids, etc.) might be interested in it, because it's very poisonous. You just got a whiff from the prick, but eating leaves would be a lot worse.

It is easier to take a cutting than sowing seeds. Chop off a peice of the woody stuff, then stick some rooting hormone on it jam it in a small pot and keep the soil slightly moist. Should take a couple of weeks to see new leaves appear. (Even without the hormone, it will most lkely root.)

TY so much, I will definately try that.

And I have seen that this plant is toxic. I am definately warning all of my neighbors about it. At least we now have the knowledge. :) Thank You all so much!
