Solved: Crataegus monogyna (Introduced from Europe)

    I am not familiar with this species. The plants I saw were less than 2 feet tall and growing upright with green or red stems and ~ 1 cm long red spines.

    It's a hawthorn with the most prevalent "wild" species having this same general appearance in our region being Crataegus monogyna.
