I had a reminder to look for new leaves on Schefflera taiwaniana, I think because I saw it one year (with a label?) and looked it up, saw new leaf photos, wanted to see them myself. It's supposed to be in plot 3AE8, with only one other schefflera that has a label, and this looks pretty similar to internet photos, so I think this must be it. I'll save the mysteries for the next posting, will finish out this one with the trees with labels. This is Schefflera delavayi, next to the S. taiwaniana. These new leaves look soft and fuzzy, but they're not. I'm sorry now I didn't photograph the tree - it's much larger than the others here. Schefflera minutistellata has great leaves - lots of leaflets that seem to sort themselves out into two tiers.
I didn't do a very good job of recording where these three scheffleras are. They might all be in or near 3AC3, and there are three schefflera names in that plot: Schefflera fengii, S. alpina and S hoy. Oy, try to look up Schefflera hoy - all the hits are en espaƱol. Here is Schefflera 3. It might be on Decaisne, is definitely east of the Decaisnea trees, maybe even on the trail that has a Tetracentron, but that's in 3AC5. Schefflera 4 is west of the Decaisnea trees, possibly really in 3AC3, (edited) very possibly on the trail that has the Cathaya argyrophylla. And this poor droopy thing, Schefflera 5, I think is very near the one above. The red stems are really pretty, but it is pretty droopy. I mentioned these in passing - here is a Decaisnea fargesii female flower, and the Tetracentron sinense, which looks a lot better than it did two years ago. It has only been here four years. There are some Cathaya argyrophylla photos at the end of the first posting here: First Day of Spring
