Snake Garlic (Allium sativum) http://uibai.notlong.com/ 17 April 2008 Snake Garlic (Allium sativum) Planted in October 2007, and all 54 plants are doing well.
Hi Durgan, I planted a bed of garlic last year which I believed had died before producing bulbs. Looking out across my garden I can see the entire bed is now full of young garlic haha. I guess that the bulbs must have survived and now I have 2-4 plants coming from the same spot where I had planted a single clove the year before. Now to my question. Is it best to somehow thin out the garlic so that they're not so crowded or should I leave them be?
The clump will not produce cloves of any useful size. Basically all you have is what is similiar to a clump of chives. These can be eaten during the summer, and are still pleasant. One single clove planted in the Fall produces a beautiful bulb ready for harvest about 1 July in my Zone 5.
