Re: Small vine with Yellow flowers around 1600-2000 meters in the eastern Andes Colom Allamanda cathartica, almost certainly. It's a very popular vine in both our countries.
Re: Small vine with Yellow flowers around 1600-2000 meters in the eastern Andes Colom Urechites lutea(aka Pentalinon luteum)? http://www.latin-wife.com/Colombian-Flowers-/Urechites-lutea.asp
Re: Small vine with Yellow flowers around 1600-2000 meters in the eastern Andes Colom Thanks I have that vine and this is different.
Re: Small vine with Yellow flowers around 1600-2000 meters in the eastern Andes Colom Welcome Columbia. I'm glad you found us and Lorax! barb
Re: Small vine with Yellow flowers around 1600-2000 meters in the eastern Andes Colom That was a no on the Urechites lutea, I missed the first post from Lorax. Lorax this photo is what I think is an Allamanda cathartica from Barranquilla. The vine above has fewer leaves, the throat was more orange and were not very large. Are you saying they are the same and maybe the difference is the cooler temperature providing the slight differences?
Re: Small vine with Yellow flowers around 1600-2000 meters in the eastern Andes Colom Far as I know A. cathartica has whorled leaves (3 to 5) and is clambering your plant has opposite leaves, twining stems making me think it may be in another genus.
Re: Small vine with Yellow flowers around 1600-2000 meters in the eastern Andes Colom Saltcedar, you are correct upon a closer look it is not cathartica. The last photo I posted is catharitica and it is different from the plant above. So I am back to ground zero.
Re: Small vine with Yellow flowers around 1600-2000 meters in the eastern Andes Colom Mandevilla benthamii?
Re: Small vine with Yellow flowers around 1600-2000 meters in the eastern Andes Colom Thanks but does not look the same http://www.diversityoflife.org/cgi-...taxon_name=Mandevilla_benthamii&rank=binomial
Re: Small vine with Yellow flowers around 1600-2000 meters in the eastern Andes Colom how about that family? Mandevilla is a vine with opposite leaves, and the flower structure is quite similar to your sample. Kew shows 188 M. species in their approved list of plants. Plantsystmatics does not have all species in the family represented - we may be challenged to find an image online so may need to access other resources - a member with a vast library?
Re: Small vine with Yellow flowers around 1600-2000 meters in the eastern Andes Colom Mandevilla hirsuta? Closest match I could find. http://www.tropicos.org/Image/4469 http://www.flickr.com/photos/ntsavanna/438883643/in/photostream http://www.flickr.com/photos/68587888@N00/2915036516/
Re: Small vine with Yellow flowers around 1600-2000 meters in the eastern Andes Colom looks good to me, saltcedar. nice work.
Re: Small vine with Yellow flowers around 1600-2000 meters in the eastern Andes Colom I don't see a match with Mandevilla hirsuta http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Mandevilla_hirsuta.jpg
Re: Small vine with Yellow flowers around 1600-2000 meters in the eastern Andes Colom I believe they've confused the foliage of the plant it's climbing with the vine itself. Happens often with inexperienced plant sleuths!
Re: Small vine with Yellow flowers around 1600-2000 meters in the eastern Andes Colom The throat of the Mandevilla hirsuta is much redder and the stem is hairy and the leaves look more elongated. http://biogeodb.stri.si.edu/biodiversity/coiba/species/25427/
Re: Small vine with Yellow flowers around 1600-2000 meters in the eastern Andes Colom M. hirsuta (aka M. tomentosa) is a highly variable plant with a large range from southern central America to the upper 2/3 of South America. It you will find has many variations depending on where in it's range you look. Your specimen is tomentose which I agree is quite different.
Re: Small vine with Yellow flowers around 1600-2000 meters in the eastern Andes Colom I only have casual eye so if you feel confident it is Mandevilla hirsuta that's the name I will go with. Thanks.
Re: Small vine with Yellow flowers around 1600-2000 meters in the eastern Andes Colom If it were up to me I'd probably assign it to a separate species but they're clever enough not to allow that.
Re: Small vine with Yellow flowers around 1600-2000 meters in the eastern Andes Colom Then what would this plant, I was told Allamanda cathartica but I do'nt think so. The photo in post 6 is Allamanda cathartica. And this does not look like the Mandevilla hirsuta.
Re: Small vine with Yellow flowers around 1600-2000 meters in the eastern Andes Colom Pics in post 6 and the one above both look like Allamanda cathartica. Have you noticed the seed pods. They are rather spikey? The buds are also rather distinctive, they start red and as the flowers uncurl open yellow. http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=e....,cf.osb&fp=3d61e2f9b25c0e74&biw=1280&bih=622 http://www.google.co.uk/search?pq=a...&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi https://toptropicals.com/pics/garden/05/n5/5250.jpg Quote from wiki.... "A woody, evergreen shrub with vigorous growth, Allamanda may reach a free-standing height of 2 metres or more. The leathery leaves are lancelike, pointed, and may either be opposite or in whorls of three or four."
Re: Small vine with Yellow flowers around 1600-2000 meters in the eastern Andes Colom This is definitely cathartica, and there is a huge variation in the colour of that species. Here's the same plant, grown in Loja, Ecuador - a cloud forest town.
Re: Small vine with Yellow flowers around 1600-2000 meters in the eastern Andes Colom Ok, thanks both, it did look like an Allamanda but different from the cathartica I have seen in BAQ.
