I just found a small tree on our property i don't recognize. It has 8 oblong, smooth edge leaves, directly opposite on a twig about 4" long with a cluster of 12-14 tiny very fragant white blossoms. The tree is maybe 8-10 feet tall with numerous sprouts around the base. There are thorn like protusions on the trunk & main branches. I live in central Ohio & the tree is growing in a shaded area with no similar trees in evidence.
    What is it?

Do you have a large one that its growing from?

    The neighbors?

I grew up with one on my parents property, and other than many sprouts in the lawn, I thought it was a nice looking tree.

No larger tree but i'm concerned because i just planted a red dawn redwood about 20' from the locust & now i'm thinking i should move the locust. There's a mature stand of white pine nearby & i'm thinking i should put the locust there. Any thoughts?
