small tree with long lance-shaped leaves

    A volunteer tree appeared in my garden last year with long lace-shaped leaves (4 inches long). The mature leaves are green and the new ones have a reddish tinge. It's growing but not very quickly. At first I thought it was a peach tree, but the leaves appear to be too wide. It is growing upright. Any ideas?

    Looks a bit like a Diervilla - but I am not sure what it is from this picture.

    What about this photo of Diervilla splendens from a Polish garden blog? Actually, I'm not sure if the leaf margins rule this out.

    It looks similar except the leaf edge is smooth.
