    Hello everyone,

This is my first post, mostly because I've never realized how difficult it is to identify a plant before. The internet just seems like a big mess when it comes down to asking a seemingly vague question. Especially, when you have no idea where to start or what to really look for. I will be thankful for any information you could give me to point me in the right direction. Anyway, back to business...

I'm attempting to identify this plant that my family has in their front yard. Its been there since we moved in, about 10 years ago and was big and bushy, see attached image but imagine that the foliage stretched to the ground initially. Bare in mind that the green post in front of the plant are about a meter tall.

Since we moved in this plant has never really flowered or produced any fruit, until my mother decided to trim the lower part of the plant and start a garden. This autumn season the plant has produced these little green fruits. That I also haven't been able to identify, as I have never seen anything like them before. I cut into them, and they emit this sweet aroma. Which is why I'm so interested in identifying this plant, I am curious if there is anything we could make with these fruits. In the other image attached, I have included the several fruit with it sliced in several different ways and some individual leafs. For reference, the lighter on the right side of the image is about 8cm long.

The leafs of this plant are about 3 cm long and ovular in shape. Some seem to come to a point at the end but most are just rounded. Furthermore, the leaves seems like more of a middle tone green, if that means anything to anyone.

Perhaps a bit about the climate that we are in would help. I live in south western US, it tends to be very arid and hot through out the year. During the summer it can reach highs of 43C and lows of about 21C. During the winter it tends to be about 18C during the day and about 0-5 C at night.

I guess that is all I can think of that would be useful in identifying this plant. Thanks for your help.

    Best,
    Sean
