So I thought I was doing a good job for my jades; I was only watering when the lower leaves were less than firm, giving is full sun. It has been growing new leaves really nicely BUT this morning I find that two separate branches have almost fallen over on my small leaf variety! I've seen this happen to other jades and I really don't want it to happen to this one. I have it in a glazed pot but I didn't think that I was over watering it =/.

Any suggestions? My variegated, larger leaved jade and "golem toes" jades are all happy and not falling over.

    Thanks in advance,

    Ryan

Might need more light and/or more frequent watering.

although the glazed pot isn't the best (unglazed is preferred) as long as it does have drainage holes and you let the soil dry out in between waterings the jade should do okay.

what kind of soil is it in and how long since you repotted it?? can you post a pic, too?

Thanks for the help guys! Much appreciated!

I watered it only last night so I doubt that it's in need of more water (but I could be wrong seeing as the leaves haven't firmed back up completely yet). When I got up this morning one branch had almost entirely fallen over. Having propped it up against the window for a few hours it seems to be stronger on its own (so in these pics it's nowhere near as flopped over as it was this morning). The one that was almost horizontal this morning is the branch on the right side. It seems fairly limp to boot.

It's in "cactus" soil (it has a decent amount of perlite in it from what I can see) as far as I know. I never actually repotted it myself, when I bought the plant the greenhouse workers repotted it for me because it was so pot bound originally so I'm not 100% what kind of soild it's in. It has been in the same pot for over a year. Also, the pot has drainage holes.

    Thanks again guys!

All and all your jade looks pretty good. The two stems that were droopy and falling over, maybe their roots aren't anchored down enough, so when it's watered, they "float" Just a thought.

Wow, Bluewing I hadn't thought of that! I had tried to feel how wet the soil was and it was pretty loose. That might well be the reason!

Thanks again for the help everyone ^_^,

    Ryan

P.S. The soil was really loose and I tamped it down a little but the stems themselves seem kinda weak. I'm thinking that they might not have been taking up water properly with the "floating" roots? No clue.

they probably need to develop a stronger root system - if they weren't anchored too well, they weren't getting the most out of the waterings.

if they're still a little 'loose' maybe take off a pair of leaves and bury them a bit more.

    Rhynno,
Next time you water, try holding the naughty stems in place with your other hand and see if that doesn't help. Something I had to do countless times when potting up a cutting which will "float" all over the place when it's being watering in.
