I hope you can help me. My compost is still full of worms and other bugs, does this mean it is not ready to add to the garden or pots? If I dig out a shovelful, put it into a container with some soil and then plant a new perennial in it, would the bugs eat the roots of the plant, or do they just eat the soil and compost debris? Many thanks, Marian

Compost normally contains worms and lots of other bugs and critters like sow bugs, snails, slugs etc. These are the guys that take all the stuff you put into your compost box and turn it into compost!

If you are worried about adding all these critters to you plant pots, I would suggest you get or make yourself a small screen so that you can screen the compost and that should leave behind the critters which you can add back to the compost box. :o)
