I have just found an insect on a recently planted Smaragd hedge. I looked because the hedge looks in overall poor health. There are a large number of slimey sluggy looking things that on closer inspection have 6 little legs in the front. They are greyish white, a bit translucent and about 3-5mm long. I'm assuming that they are not uncommon, but I can't seem to find any reference to them in my books.
    Any ideas what they are?
    Any ideas for control?
    Much appreciated.

Thanks for answering. I doubt very much they are scale as they're quite mobile and I seem to recall that the crawler stage for scale is in the spring. They also seem on the large side. I did find them in the foliage though.
