I bought two skimmia: one is reevesiana, the other isjaponica luwiana. At the nursery I've been told that I need the two of them (as one is male the other female) if I want berries as well. Surfing the web I learnt that skimmia reevesiana is hermaphrodite. Is it? What about skimmia japonica luwiana: is it also a hermaphrodite? Is it male or female? If it's female, will it bear berries due to the proximity to the reevesiana? Thank you
your Skimmia japonica 'reevesiana' is a hermaphrodite but it will give you far more berries if you add a male plant to your collection. Skimmia j. 'Rubella" and "Bronze Knight" both have great pink flowers and are male.
