We have 2 very large Silver maples about 40 years old and about 100 ft tall. Both have been slow to grow leaves in the very top branches for several years. This year, some high branches are bare at mid branch, but are full of leaves at the ends. I see no signs of the rot or bore holes that I've read about, and the leaves are clean. I know they should be cut back but I cant justify the cost. Is it because they are so tall? Are they dieing?
