I have a weeping cherry that we planted about two years ago. It boomed beautifully the first two seasons and now it only has one bloom on it. Toward the end of the previous growing season its leaves began to curl a little earlier than they should have dropped off. That was our first sign of trouble. After further examination we noticed that the bark from right under the limbs at the top of the tree had a rusty colored fungus growing on it - no fungus was present on the trunk of the tree. The trunk at the top is much smaller in diameter than the main trunk and this is where the fungus starts. After further examining a few days ago, some of the branches appear to be dead but the trunk seems to be green. We want to save the tree and do not know what to do. What is wrong with our tree? Should we prune it back at the top? Use something for the fungus? What? Please help!
