hello, i've had a pencil cactus as a house plant for half a year or more. it flourished at first but has recently been losing branches (they dry out and fall off), mostly near the base but other places too. the main stem looks sick - the outer wrapping seems dry for the first few inches, then it is still green but darkening and no longer "succulent". The plant has lost about half of its mass and seems to be dying. can someone help? i'm not watering any differently, and while i moved its location, it was only by a few feet. the only other difference is that we are back in the season of using the furnace to heat the house. should i try to get it well (how?)? or top off the "good" part and try to regrow it? (if so, how?) any advice appreciated!
I have a bunch of cacti/succulents that I have brought in for the winter, they are close to a heater (woodstove) so I have to water them far more than I did when they were outside.
I had a beautiful pencil cactus that stayed out during the summer, in the house during the winter. This winter it was evidently too close to the woodstove and it dried up and died. I am heartbroken. I was so proud of this plant. I have a smaller one that looks half dead. Sort of limpy looking. I can't figure out how to make a cutting. No matter what I do, it just dries up and dies. Please help me. I want to make some more plants. I do love them.
