Today I was given sick palm tree. I have no idea which kind it is, it was given to me with no information. I believe it is a small date palm tree by only looking a pictures online. All it got was water, is in a small pot and has hardly any soil. It is as if the poor baby is sweating from the trunk to the tips like sap, has bumps and is flaking like dry skin, really tiny flakes. It is dying slowly. I have searched and searched for different types of deseases and have found nothing. Can any of you tell me how to save this little palm? It was kept indoors and I don't know if I should continue to keep it inside or plant it outside where the roots can grow. Thank you to anyone who can help me.

Please give us some photos of your palm.
A major scale infestation, maybe? The 'sap' might be exudate from these pests.

The palm has an infestation of scale. Treat with insecticidal soap or horticultural oil. The latter is reputedly more effective.
