What could be wrong with this tree? It is several years old, always done poorly, our soil has a pH of about 7.1 Other Maples in the yard are thriving.
That bright yellow makes me think iron deficiency but you have others doing well... Anything different aout this site? Transplants just sometimes fail. IF I planted 100 trees all properly a few may not make it.
Thanks for reminding me about the iron. Due to the soil PH some of the iron is not available to the plants. I have a strawberry bed nearby that was yellowish looking and responded well to chelated iron. Note the necrotic edges on the leaves, I thought this might be in response to some disease. We have a lot of trouble with bacterial canker in the cherry tree, maybe this is a factor.
Their is a fungus amung-us! We do not have a great picture of the leaves but given what I see and time of year my guess is Anthracnose. Has it been a wet winter and or spring? Here is info on treating HGIC 2005 Maple Diseases & Insect Pests : Extension : Clemson University : South Carolina
Thanks for the clue. Yes, we have had an unusually wet winter and spring. Eleven feet of snow in the mountains! Will check out the references--thanks again.
Glad you found it helpful, be sure to check out the section on Anthracnose since its been wet. Dispose of any brown fallen leaves as leaving them at the base can lead to future outbreaks.
