shrub with red berries

    My neighbors and several others have this large shrub (2-3 meters) with red berries. Photo of branch attached. The word around the 'hood is that the berries are poisionous, which seems likely, but no one knows the species. Can anyone id this? Berries are about 0.5 cm in diameter.
