Can you ID this shrub? It's evergreen and cold hardy. The picture was taken in Siena few days ago. Thank you!

Hmmm! I cannot be sure, it is so difficult to get an idea of scale., however,... there is a shrub, new to the trade, called Photinia x fraseri "Curly Fantasy". Pics on www seem to vary slightly, however this pic seems to look like your shrub. I think those red buds on your pic may be the new leaves which on Photinia open a deep red, only later turning green.
Any chance that you could get more pics?

I believe it may have started life under the name Photinia serrulata cultivar kolcurl. This is document that registers it for Plant Breeders Rights. (PBR). United States Patent USPP13584 Dated 18th February 2003. Scroll down past top stuff. Fascinating stuff!

Thanks, Silver Surfer, I cannot view the original photo, (Photoshop is blocked on my computer!?) but your info. on the new Photinia was excellent. Now I know what is ahead of me when I discover 'that' new plant.

Thanks, Silver surfer, I will have to get photobucket unblocked.
Ron B is right. It does not seem to be Photinia but otherwise I am clueless.
