I hope someone will be able to identify the shrub these seed pods came from. They were collected within walking distance of Jericho Beach Park in Vancouver this fall.

The seed pods are about 8 - 9 cm (3 inches or so) long and have flattish orange seeds.

    Thank you

I have tried to attach a photo. Hope it works.

Looks like some kind of Magnolia fruit. A shrub? Maybe a dwarf M. grandiflora?

    Thank you, Eric,

These seed pods were collected by a friend and she couldn't remember whether they came from a tree or a shrub, but thought a shrub. We both thank you for the quick ID. I've never seen a magnolia seedhead before. They are fascinating.

Looks quite like fruit of Oyama magnolia. This has been present in some Vancouver park plantings, QE Park for instance has had multiple prominently located specimens in the past.
