Hello: Does anyone know what these flower buds are? After the red buds bloom, they open to white flowers (see background flower), then dark reddish-black berries appeared. The photo was taken at the beginning of August in a local garden. Thanks, Michelle
Hi: Thanks for the response and photos. But do all Lonicera droop down? These buds shoot upwards. I've attached another photo. Thanks, Michelle
No, the photos referenced above are only of L. sempervirensj, for which the leaves don't match your plant. There are many other Lonicera species, and many with upright flowers.
Not like L. sempervirens in leaf or flower, more on the order of L. periclymenum. There are a number of honeysuckles with the same general appearance.
I don't know how to tell apart all the honeysuckles that have this same general appearance, but here there is a definite tendency for them to turn out to be forms of L. periclymenum. To get this one just right will require looking at pertinent descriptions and keys in manuals and floras - unless a matching example of known correct identification in a nursery, public display or private collection is found.
