I just bought a Brown Turkey Fig tree and have been procrastinating with planting it. Now if has snowed (not a frequent occurance in Durham) and I fear it will not survive if I try to put it in the ground. The tree is in a pot on my covered porch - which is facing south. Do I need to wrap it? leave it where it is and water every week? bring it indoors? When should I plant it?

    thank you

Keep it where the pot will not freeze up, but the air temperature will not cause the top to start growing too early. Maybe leave it where it is, wrap the pot with insulation if frost is expected to penetrate the porch.

And plant out early next spring, if winter is likely to have hard frosts that penetrate the soil.

Many of them popping during recent years in my region. Spread seems to have been rapid.
