This may be somewhat O/T yet relevant since the number of available daylight hours has an impact on outdoor activities, including gardening. The survey will be open until July 19, 2019 at 4pm.

I don't think they can legislate on the number of daylight hours . . . :-)

Of course if they can, I'd move to BC right away if they will guarantee 16 hours daylight per day, in winter as well as in summer . . .

    I'll vote for Michael's suggestion.
My second choice would be to keep standard time, not daylight time. That wasn't an option on the survey, and there is no place to write comments. So I didn't submit my response.

Hello and I agree - standard time would be better but I think we are trying to be in line w our closest major same time zone Pacific neighbors - in any event - I used the Question 1 « other » as the only field in which one could make a comment - maybe that works ?

It’s interesting to note a couple of things
    1. Even tho WA State governor has signed the law - apparently it has to get federal OK because it’s a move to year-round daylight. If it was a move to year round standard time - then the state can do it apparently (hence Alaska and Arizona)

    2. Next time you have trivia challenge - name the towns /cities (municipal ) that do NOT change in BC ... I don’t think all are in the Mtn Time area of BC

    great topic for gardeners OP

Thank you. That was question 2, after I had to vote for year round daylight time; I wrote in why I wanted year round standard time (too hard getting my day started when it's still dark. Now if everything else would start an hour later, I'd be fine.)

Yes I wondered also about the survey because I don’t think it acknowledged the places in BC on Mtn Time and also those that don’t change.

I think we should just have a global time on a metric clock.

they will not turn them back again

I think people who play sports want the light at the end of the day. People who get up in the morning, or want to get up in the morning without an alarm, want the daylight in the morning. If the Y would change its swim times to start an hour later, I wouldn't be so against the dark mornings.

I am one of those who has no problem with alternating Standard Time and Daylight Saving Time. In any case, it would be problematic for BC to make any changes unless co-ordinated with US states south of the border.

With all the crises going on in the world right now, it seems this issue is the least of our problems.

Agreed. I'm surprised they went ahead without coordinating with other jurisdictions.

In 1978, with the Yukon on PST, we moved to BC who were on PDT. Of course I was an hour late for work. "Oh yeah. Another yukoner. Sigh."
At the time, it was either us or Alaska who had the protest slogan: "In the land of the midnight sun, who needs daylight saving?" Still true.
What a disappointment when we moved back to be stuck with two time changes a year.

I remember that too! When the nation got metrified, the folks who were in charge of the change in the Yukon said the next step was"Metric Time".
It was April 1st. I forget the year. You should have heard the reaction.

To get to BC, don't you need to move back over two thousand years, not just an hour? 2,020 years to be exact . . ..

    (I'll get me coat :-))

i personally prefer light mornings so this leap ahead fumbles me up til earth tilts a bit more - not that I wish to rush time and nature

either ST or DT, I think it would be great to stay year round on one — and yes, i think BC should match US neighbours ie WA and OR

(I realize parts of eastern BC match Alberta time zone — plus one small town I think in the Kootenay region ?)
EDIT - apparently Creston BC stays Mtn Time year ‘round

AND - some places in Peace River région have their own time zone / change rules

    see attached -
