Searching for a tree that would provide summer shade comfort like the Mulberries and Plane Trees in France for summer dining and relaxation. An alternative to a sun umbrella I guess. Location south patio in West Vancouver 8 hours of sun in summer- site surrounded by giant firs and hemlocks so dark and damp in winter. Preferred height 5-6 m, spread 8-10m. Does such a tree exist?
Sorry, was in a hurry and did not read the question properly - the fruit tree might be a problem on a patio . Can you root a climber in the garden or container and train it so cast shade over the patio? I have also seen trees growing through holes cut in the decking but this may not be an option. Margaret
