We are removing a beloved Pear tree in our Vancouver small garden. It's over 80 years with rust trellis blight. It will be missed. Considering planting in it's place, the Chinese Seven Sons (Heptacodicum Miconoides), a shrub that can be pruned to a small tree. Has anyone experience with this variety, or finding it locally? Thanks!
Has been a feature of the David C Lam Asian Garden at UBC for years. A shrub of some height, probably related to Abelia and like it not really a tree. I am growing three and would just let yours shape itself as it will, on its own.
Thanks so much for the note on the Asian Gardens at UBC. Shall visit asap in the hopes of finding the red calyxes still on. From link below it looks like this beautiful shrub needs a fair bit of room. http://www.finegardening.com/plantguide/heptacodium-miconioides-seven-son-flower.aspx
