My parents recently bought a house that has a small berry tree out front. We have been trying to identify it as we'd like to know if the berries are edible. We keep meaning to take a cutting to a nursery, but never seem to get around to it.

After some time surfing plant identification sites, I believe it is a variety of Serviceberry, but would like other opinions before we go ahead and eat the berries! :P

I have attached a photo of a patch of leaves & unripe berries. Please let me know if you need a different picture.

    Thanks!!

Yep, definitely an Amelanchier, so go ahead and eat the fruit when they are ripe (purple) - if you can beat the birds to them, that is!!
