Hello, First time posting...have a question about my Aptos Blue. My landscape designer planted 3 Aptos Blue in Nov. 2005, each near my backyard fence. Yesterday my neighbor informed me of a rooting issue, where, according to her, the roots are shallow and she has concerns that the roots will "grow into" the pool next to the fence. Well, I too had a pool put in (gunite pool and with a concrete border outside), right before the trees were planted. My question is, is the concern valid? Will the root systems be such that it will grow into the neighbors pool and for that matter my pool. Also, should I be concerned about concrete and foundation lifting? Two of the trees are within 5-10 feet of the pool, the other is within 15 feet of the house foundation. Thank you for any input! -Rich
Picture 70+ foot redwoods with trunks several feet thick, main roots of commensurate diameter radiating out from these. Unless you are planning to make this planting into a sheared hedge you have been given trees eventually way out of scale with the situation. There are coast redwoods in California over 300 feet tall. 'Aptos Blue' is not a dwarf.
