Hi, somebody said to me (here: http://forum.pflanzenbestimmung.de/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2891&st=0&sk=t&sd=a ) that Senecio 'Himalaya' is just a "non-botanical nickname"... but I think it's really a cv. name for a Senecio hybrid!!! :) I know the plant, but I don't know it's origin... and I can't find any correct, botanical information about this plant's origin! :( So please help me out, if you know something about the name/origin of Senecio 'Himalaya'... :) Thanks! Lila
RHS Plant Finder returns, "Senecio talinoides subsp. cylindricus 'Himalaya' tentatively accepted name in the RHS Horticultural Database." IPNI lists Senecio talinoides Sch.Bip. subsp. cylindricus ( Bgr. ) G.D.Rowley. A few other mentions online, but nothing substantial.
This is all I found.... Origin: Himalaya, Nepal. Climate: mountain If that's what you mean you wanted...
Hm... so it's not a hybrid as I thought, just a cv., but it's really a correct plant name! THANK YOU ERIC AND BLUEWING!!! :)
Senecio "Himalaya" is neither a cultivar nor a hybrid. The name is neither valid nor correct. It is a name that was made up in the nursery trade for the species correctly named Senecio barbertonicus. The species of African origin not Asiatic. It is definitely not Senecio talinoides ssp. cylindricus. The "experts" at RHS Plant Finder guessed completely wrong. That species has glaucous not green leaves. The correct identity of this plant was previously discussed in the Senecio-succulents Yahoo group.
