    Hi all, first post.

I had a WJM growing up and always loved it. Apparently the guy who planted it never took the bag off the roots, but it still lived for over twenty-five years. My best guess is that it was a Tamukeyama. It was green in the spring and on sheltered leave in the summer, red in the summer, orange in the fall.

I have my own house now and am doing some landscaping. I have researched a lot and decided on a Tamukeyama and Shin Deshojo for a couple garden locations. The Tamukeyama is going into 3/4 sun and the Shin Deshojo into well protected partial shade.

I have one yard spot left that borders an unsightly neighbor's yard. I am looking for a tree to grow relatively quickly and eventually get to 15 feet or more. It needs to be capable of handling full sun and tolerant of zone 6 (Boston). I would prefer to have it cycle colors throughout the year (not just red). It is the last spot I have left and I would really like it to be unique.

So far here is my list:

    - Emperor I
    - Osakazuki
    - Glowing Embers

    Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Those look like good suggestions. I am going to check local stock to see what is available. Thanks.

Will do. The Tamukeyama and Shin Deshojo arrive this Thursday. Pacific coast didn't have any size 4 Shin Deshojo left, so they are sending a size 6. I am not positive how much bigger it is, but shipping tripled in price so I think it is big.

The decision on a big tree is probably another week or two away.

I have received the Shin Deshojo and I think it is a good specimen. See the attached pics. As you can see it is well protected from the wind. It is getting morning sun, partial sun in the early afternoon and shade in the late afternoon. I am watering a moderate amount every other day as long as the soil is dry. Does that seem appropriate? I can cut back branches above to give it more sun if need be.

No action yet on the big tree. Interestingly I went to B&B in Maine this weekend. They had about 10 JM's, all different varieties and all less than 5 years. I could only identify one as Sango Kaku. I asked the owner where they came from and it turns out that her brother runs a Nursery in SW Connecticut. I have his number and I am going to see if we can work something out.
