This is in Seattle, WA. This plant has a segmented stalk, so I thought maybe bamboo, but now am not sure. The leaves are long and skinny, it is now producing tufts of flowering fingerlings. It has a few other stalks that all diverged from the very bottom. It is currently about 5 feet high. There are two other instances of this plant randomly throughout my 4 x 8 garden, but the other two are growing much slower - they are not as tall, but started about the same time. It was right next to 2 climbing snap pea vines, and they both dried up and died, so now I'm wondering if this thing killed the peas.

Looks like some kind of Polygonum.

It is normal for snap peas to dry up and die at this time of the summer. It has nothing to do with the plant.

Yes, one of the common weedy annual knotweeds.
