I received this plant as a gift about 15 years ago - it was really really small. My mother has been taking care of it all this time, and it has grown quite large. We have no idea what it is. Can anyone identify it? Thank you.

A palm (Arecaceae) of some sort. Sorry, don't know which.

Looks like you'll need a taller room soon!

The inflorescence and frond shapes suggest a Chamaedorea species. Is it really almost hitting the ceiling? Or is that just the effect of your camera's perspective (wide angle)?. If the fronds are under about 30 inches long, it could well be the common Parlor Palm, Chamaedorea elegans, a single-stemmed species.

It looks very much like my parlor palm did some years ago. Since it's nearing the ceiling you may want to plan now to air-layer the top in the not too distant future.

The plant is almost hitting the ceiling, but it is sitting on a table with other smaller plants. So it will have to placed on the floor soon. Thank you for your reply.
