I am seeking some inspiring ideas about how to construct a few nice attractive cedar planters to put on a deck or patio in which I can do some small space intensive veggie gardening. Have looked in libraries and searched the web to no avail. Any suggestions to find attractive designs would be greatly appreciated.

No real information to share from the resources here. However, finding an interesting design my be helped along by making a series of visits to local nurseries which may soon have handsome displays of plants in containers; Containers, of various materials, may give you ideas about how you may work with cedar as well. Also a visit to a book store should yield results as there are many books available about contaner gardening. So welcome to Spring and good luck with your project.
