These little "tea bags" have done very well, the seedlings really seem to like them. However, I was just checking something -- namely, why do seedlings labeled A. sinense have a terminal bud? -- and found them to be very wet. I'm not sure how long into the season they can be left outside. What do you say, D? I also wanted to ask @AlainK how all those baby dissectums are doing.
Hi Emery, Most of them are doing fine. I'll post photos tomorrow, but I took a few pics this morning, that includes one with various seedlings of the year, from other French enthusiasts. All the "1" didn't germinate; "6" is the only 'Mon Papa', looks rather weak; "5" is buergerianum. Always a very good rate of germination, wherever the seeds come from; "4" is from 'Okushimo'; "3" is, er - I don't remember and anyway it's dark and cold now (though it was 19° this afternoon!); "2" is "Atropurpureum dissectum". As usual, very, very different seedlings. The ones I prefer ;°) "1" = 0, read above... ^_^
I decided to bring the seedling in grow bags into the greenhouse because our night temps are dropping below freezing. I hope the over winter well. I had a thought of leaving them out and covering them with fine chopped leaves but rather try the greenhouse first. A. sinense, is terminal bud unusual? Hybrid possibly?
Thanks Alain. I have enough but these are the ones I wanna grow on. About 30 are japonicums. I might try a few. I have way more than one person will ever need. I'm sure they would be find insulated in the fine chopped leaves.
