Hello everyone: As usual if I am stumped I have come to people in the know. I have included a picture of a couple of seedlings sprouted (heart shaped leaves) and the seed pod which they originated from. Very flat brown seed pod and roughly 8 seeds per pod. Wondered if anyone could tell me from pics if this is a Red Bud tree??? As usual found seeds in an old compost pile hehe. If it is a Red bud would it survive zone 5b Campbellford, Ont? Lastly if it is a Redbud tree which type Mexican, or California? Thank you once again for the wonderful knowledge based site Regards, Deb
Hi Andrey: Thank you so much for the link identification. I went back to where I originally found the seed pod tonight and found a branch. Added info to original post the branches have thorns. Do you still think this would be some type of low tick trefoil or dollar leaf. Sorry I could not provide all the data original post. Thanks Deb
This is better! Could it be Kentucky yellowwood (Cladrastis kentukea syn. Cladrastis lutea)? http://www.ehow.com/info_8203136_cladrastis-lutea-trees.html
