I have been trying to identify this seed. I was told it was a buckeye, but I can't find any similar photos. Any idea?
Looks like seeds of Mucuna sp. Common name Hamburger bean! A sea bean. http://www.google.co.uk/images?hl=e...=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&biw=1245&bih=497 http://www.seabean.com/guide/index.htm
This site has a pics to help tell one Mucuna sp from another. To me they all look rather similar. http://waynesword.palomar.edu/mucuna.htm http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgu...hAfLv6TGDg&page=1&ndsp=23&ved=1t:429,r:22,s:0
Thanks for asking about this. I've seen sea beans on the beaches past Hanalei on Kauai and always wondered what they are. It seems there is at least one more thing I could confuse them with: according to the Wayne's World article Silver Surfer linked to, I've never seen any of the flowers shown for these species. I should pay more attention next time, but the seeds may have just washed up onto the beach.
