several years ago we found a seed (looks like a nut) on the shore near Sebastian Beach FL. It is oval, dark brown with a band of black around the edge. 1-1/2" in size, about 3/4" thick. Our kids pretend it is a burger! Anyone know what it is?
Check out Macuna sloanei. http://images.google.com/imgres?img...gb:IE-ContextMenu&rlz=1I7SUNA_en-GB&sa=N&um=1 Do be sure to click on the link. There are amazing pics showing the shoots, leaves, flowers etc. It is really interesting!
Hi, there is an excellent guide to "sea beans" on the web...all you could want to know and more! http://www.seabean.com/guide/index.htm Enjoy! Brian
Hi Brian, That is the excellent site. I quoted from the same site above. It is brilliant. The www never ceases to amaze me with the info on it.
Hi silver surfer, Absolutely! There are some fantastic encyclopedic sites out there - its just such a pity that so often you have to wade through so much dross to find them...but then browsing itself can throw up some unexpected gems...so i suppose we should all keep on surfing ! Boa Sorte Brian
Hi Brian, Meant to tell you how much I enjoyed the Gingko site that you showed us last week( or is it two?)Thank you! Silver surfer
It was a hamburger bean! Thank you for the links to seabeans! After all these years of calling it a burger, it was indeed a hamburger bean! So very interesting to have found this site. We moved from our beloved Florida to the mountains in Colorado and miss the tropics so very much. To read the threads of so many interesting people has given me a lift in spirits.
