My Sedums are too happy and have gotten too big. I was wondering if I could divide them as I would a Hosta or would that be too brutal? My other option is to just prune them back to a manageable size. Suggestions please.

    Hi there ,

I have always divided my sedum in the spring while it is small and manageable. Your best way is to dig it up and cut the crown into pieces that have a large enough root ball to keep it alive. A small clump of root ball the size of a golf ball is often enough. I have read you can split them right up until the fall but I have never done so.
I have started new plants with the broken clipping of the sedum plant as well.
    Hope this helps
