Could anyone please advise me where I could PURCHASE LIVE sealing wax palm or small seedlings ? ( Cyrtostachys renda ) in the Vancouver area ? I live in Sherwood Park ALberta but do have a sun-room where I am having success with palms and other tropicals. I tried to bring one back from Hawaii ( washing off all the soil and going thru all the hoops of paperwork, but it did not like what I did to it and rapidly died.) There are places in Florida etc but they do not ship to Canada.
    I am at a loss.
ANy suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,

    Karin

Seeds can sometimes be purchased from Hawaii.

You should be aware few people even living in extreme South Florida can keep this palm alive due to its requirement for high humidity, temperatures of absolutely no less than 60 degree F and bright light. A friend living in Hawaii who is a palm expert has said this plant will not survive as a house plant.

The plant lives in a shallow swamp in nature. I have purchased a total of 7 for my tropical atrium, one costing $100, and not a single one has survived a single winter.

    photopro,
Your greenhouse is a jungle - I love it. It must be like stepping into a whole different world. If only all of us were so lucky.

thanks, it only takes some time, patience and a bunch of reading. Otherwise Mother Nature does most of the work. If only we could get her to carry out the dead leaves!
