SE Missouri Wildflower

    Plant found in dried mud near a pond. Plant was about 2 ft tall with alternate leaves and prominent spines at the nodes(as seen in photo). I'm not even sure what family this is in, I was thinking Solanaceae? Any help very much appreciated.

    Looks like a Hydrolea. USDA site is not working now, so I don't know which ones occur in your area.

    Thanks a lot, you are correct. It appears to be H.uniflora.
