Another problem. Our south facing deck is particularly exposed to our neighbours on the west side. There is a fairly large philadelphus in the garden below the deck, which when it comes out does give us some privacy, but I would like to grow something in a pot, perhaps, that could give us screening. There is a climbing frame attached to the deck that vines could grow on, but I wouldn't want to have to be pruning it all the time. I have thought of some runner beans, but perhaps I should consider an evergreen shrub grown in a pot? Bamboo in a pot? Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

We've also been considering a bamboo in a pot on the deck to serve the same purpose. It would provide a visual screen and a bit of white noise as the breeze blows. We use railing planters secured with zip ties, potting mix added, and planted up for summer, to help also.
